Measurement in social sciences

Measurement is an important dimension of research in the social sciences. The quality of measurement and of measurement instruments has a direct impact on the entirety of the research endeavour. Moreover, the current development of comparative studies, both longitudinal and transversal, requires new measurement instruments compatible to different time scales and societies. The development of advanced statistical methods and information technology has lead to the introduction of highly accurate measurement techniques which allow the construction of social indicators compatible to different social contexts. The RSS summer school aims to map out quantitative methods and investigate measurement models in the social sciences. The summer school will look into both classic techniques as well as new methodologies.

The courses target Master’s and PhD students as well as young social science researchers (sociology, political science, communication studies, education studies, psychology). Participants should have previously taken a course in multi-varied statistical analysis and have solid knowledge of multiple regression analysis and ANOVA.
